Meet the Mitchells of Mississippi Teachers at Lee College
The Mitchells, natives of Mississippi, are a teacher couple with three children. Mildred Mitchell, a mathematics teacher, grew up amid southern oaks and magnolias and earned degrees from Blue Mountain Baptist Women’s College and Peabody College. John Mitchell, a chemistry teacher, studied at Peabody, LSU, and Vanderbilt, served in the U.S. Marine Corps, and trained as a radar technician before moving to Texas.

Texas Novelist Is Lyceum Speaker
Larry McMurtry spoke at the Lyceum Series as a 1963-64 participant, addressing students about his career as a novelist. He noted a Guzgenheim Foundation grant for 1964-65 and referenced his works Horseman Pass By and Leaving Cheyenne, plus the film Hud and Oscar moments connected to the era. The 1964 Lee Log, Lee College annual, is bigger than ever with 160 pages plus eight autograph pages. It features a boomtown theme with a gushing oil well cover, six sections and eight color pages, and is distributed in the Student Union from 1 to 2 p.m. through Wednesday.
