Varsity Magazine Seeks 1200 Word Short Shorts
Varsity announces a contest open to LIC students for short short stories. Accepted tales must be about 1200 words and themed for a mass male undergraduate audience. A prize of 100 dollars awaits each story chosen for publication and the effort aims to develop new young writing talent.

Scholarships Announced For 1948-49 At LJC
Four new scholarships totaling 350 dollars will be offered to entrants at LJC for fall 1948 raising total LJC awards to 750 dollars. Lions club provides two hundred dollars, Kiwanis one hundred and Jaycee ettes one hundred. One boy and one girl entrant from RELHS or Cedar Bayou High are eligible for Lions awards. Applications due May 1 with duties including a letter. selection by Lions scholarship committee. Kiwanis reviews by academics, activities, leadership and attitude. Jaycee-ettes plan pending. A UW A gives fifty dollars to a girl. Citizens National Bank awards two hundred dollars to RELHS graduates enrolling in LJC. Ramona remains noted.

Ten New Volumes Added To Library
Miss Sylvia Stern announces additions to the college library since April 5 totaling ten new volumes and about 800 more volumes since the college year began. New titles include Who's Who in America 1948-49 and Encyclopedia Britannica World Atlas alongside Congressional Directory 1947 1948 and works on radio servicing and Mount Vernon. The library now holds about 1100 bound volumes with 165 added since the year started. The State Department has offered items for exhibition to aid understanding of U S foreign policy.

San Jacinto Monument Honors Texan History Parade
The USS Texas will be enshrined at San Jacinto Battlegrounds in a ceremony recalling Texas independence won in 1836. Historical notes cover the battleground’s 1853 marking, 327 acres designated as San Jacinto State Park, and the monument’s 1930s design by Jesse H. Jones with dedication episodes in 1939.

VA Form 7 1908 filing urged for summer term
Veterans are urged to file VA Form 7 1908 before April 28 to interrupt subsistence when not continuing school through summer. Bulletin 759 explains how Form 7 1907c authorizes subsistence from entry to 15 days after the term, with summer term adjustments. In a April 14 meeting, veterans Jacks and Rose were chosen to lobby Austin for the bonus bill, with 50 cents per attending veteran to fund delegates, collected by Jack Akin.
