Student Congress meets Fridays at 12 30 p m in Moser Hall Reception Room with Mercedes Renteria as contact for information and volunteer beach cleanup on Sept 21 tied to the Texas Coastal Cleanup program. The Lee College Jazz Ensemble plays Sept 18 at 11 a m in Moser Hall Patio.
Former LC student Mark Kramer, a 1988 Lee High School graduate and former Lee College journalist, is named managing editor of The Houstonian at Sam Houston State University. He previously wrote for Baytown Sun and Clearlake Citizen, held LC sports editor duties, and expressed eagerness to learn as he oversees layout, front page design, news and sports copy.
The Baptist Student Union hosts a semester kickoff party on August 29 with Robin Hood impersonator Jay Givens and a motivational speech. Regular events include weekday lunches at 12 10 pm for a dollar, guest talks by Jeff Holloway Kevin Brown Michael Flowers and a fall retreat at Lake Tomahawk September 20 21 costing 25 dollars.
The sixth Adopt-a-Beach Program on Sept 21 invites students to help clean sixteen Gulf Coast beaches including Matagorda Bay City Mustang Island Padre Island and Galveston. Sponsored by the Texas General Land Office and Center for Marine Conservation, the event marks the start of a year long cleanup and features art and photo contests with cash prizes and deadlines.
