Enrollment boosts Lee College funding outlook
Enrollment at Lee College rises 10 percent this fall boosting projected state funding. Dean Ed Monk says more contact hours drive larger appropriations as the base year 1988 guides next two-year budgeting. Spring totals may vary, while industrial retraining drives noncredit and area institutions report gains.

Environmental Society Forms On Campus Led By Jay Spears
Sophomore Jay Spears launches an on campus Environmental Society to unite students for planet preservation. Officially recognized Sept 24, Spears chairs the group with DaLu Nifong as VP, Barbara Castellanos as secretary, and Wendy Britt as Student Congress representative. Faculty sponsors include Verne Lehmberg and Judy Lehmberg, with Mike Jones as co sponsor. The club plans Sierra Club hikes recycling programs a Ridley sea turtle receiving program and Audubon trips while proposing campus paper recycling and environmental suggestion boxes. Meetings are twice monthly in the Student Service Center Moser Hall contact Verne Lehmberg ext 334.

Counselor studies mate selection impact from student survey
Lee College counselor Raquel Henry concludes a study using 100 men and 100 women to examine how changing roles of women influence mate choice. Using Murstein and Allport tests, she matched participants by age origin and marital history to compare values shaping marriage.

War memorabilia exhibit ties to new history course
The Lee College Moody Center display runs Oct 23 to Nov 3 in Rundell Hall and Moser Hall front, featuring 1940s uniforms, photos, and authentic models of German and American WWII machines. Coordinators Crathirds and Boggs expand the tribute after a Houston B 17 flyover, with teaching of WWII history by Bill McNeil next spring.
