President Vivian Blevins begins reshaping LC’s admin flow adding 10 direct reports to the president from former groups. She aims to reduce reporting layers, assign current deans and directors under the president, and create chairmen who manage departments with reduced teaching duties.
The Student Activities Committee elected officers for 1986 87 with Susanna Stringmeier as president and Patricia Pradia as vice president. Monthly meetings move to Social Science Building 109 Tuesdays at 12 15 pm. A November blood drive with a MASH theme will feature an Army helicopter, ambulance, and staff in fatigues around Moser Hall.
The Student Activities Committee outlines activities for Higher Education Week from October 27 to 31. Plans include class audit invitations, faculty “Have a Class On Us Day,” a speech by Dr. Joseph Rice, a “Name the Instructor” contest, a $200 essay prize, a reception, and a Halloween dance finale.
New Lee College admissions director Dianne Stormer Johnson vows to boost spring enrollment to strengthen the state funding base. She aims to partner with Baytown’s Economic Development Council, develop programs, raise LC’s image, and engage community access to education.
Joy Hidalgo reports on a forum for returning students hosted by Support Services for Returning Students. Panelists advise older learners to seek counselor help, manage time, and avoid the Super Mom syndrome. They urge pursuing fields of genuine interest and maintaining contact with teachers for support.
Baytown police have no leads in an on campus flashing case and a separate attempted fondling incident at Lee College on Sept 24. A white male, 18 to 20, about 6 feet, blond hair, dark glasses, beige shorts, pink shirt and hat, exposure and attempted fondling occurred in the Music Building and Technical/Vocational Building. Police urge anyone with information to call 422-8371.
Lee College president Vivian Blevins outlined plans to expand extension offerings to better serve off campus students in Dayton Liberty and the Baytown area. She noted rising layoffs and unemployed adults needing remedial courses and flexible schedules and cited her 10 week developmental writing classes lifting students from fourth to tenth grade.
