One hundred seven Lee College sophomores are named candidates for diplomas at 7 p.m. May 20 in the LC gymnasium. Dr. Kenneth Ashworth will address the graduates on higher education. Special honors include Hall of Fame, 3.5 GPA, and the Walter Rundell Scholar.
The first term summer school registration runs May 31 from 10 am to 7 pm and the second term on July 12 from 10 am to 7 pm. Students must obtain a registration sheet from the Records Office in Moler Hall and see the Counseling Office for planning. Pre-registration runs April 18 to May 18 noon with fees due by May 18.
Dencie Crow, an 18 year old Sterling High School senior, won Miss Baytown Lee College at the April 23 pageant held at Sterling High School Auditorium. She will represent Baytown at the Miss Texas Pageant in Fort Worth in July and received a $700 scholarship plus crown scepter roses trophy and trip. First runner up Sherri Dickey, a Lee College student, won $400. second runner up Michelle Yvette Lathon won $250. third runner up Janie Davis won $150.
Freshman journalism majors Mark Brazzil and Susan Cummings are named editors for the Fall and Spring issues of the Lantern and Reflections. They are praised for initiative and past editor experience. Cummings notes plans to publish a newspaper every two weeks with a new retail advertising department.
Gertrude Lyon is honored as Physical Educator of the Year by the LC Health and Physical Education Department at a Sunday reception. Approximately 60 guests attended. Lyon retires after 14 years as the district's only woman physical education instructor, with Baytown schools since 1937. She plans to travel and spend time with family. Bruce Roush coordinated the event. Ron Ummel will interview candidates to replace her.
