The Harris County district attorney's office investigates the college auto mechanics shop for procurement irregularities. LC President Vivian Blevins notes an audit is underway and declines to forecast completion. An investigator has been on campus, with no charges discussed.
Career Day will run Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the campus gymnasium, with 30 to 35 firms sending personnel. Job Placement Officer Bunny Doucet says the event is open to all students and will feature many full and part-time positions from companies such as Chevron Exxon Shell United Parcel Service and local agencies.
LC counselor Rosemary Coffman announced Celebration of Abilities Week March 4 8 featuring guest speakers Patsy Dowling March 4 12 30 p m in Moser Hall patio and Scott Schneider March 7 11 30 a m in the same week. Schneider a Disability Olympics medalist and coach of the Houston Rolling Cougars will lead an exhibition game with SC faculty March 8 6 30 p m in the gym. A 1 2 30 p m reception March 6 honors Dennis Topper. Films include Mask Dominique and Eugene Children of a Lesser God and My Left Foot shown free in John Tucker Lecture Hall all week.
Janice Gray a 36 year old Conroe resident and former Lee College English instructor seeks reinstatement with back wages and benefits after being terminated December 15 1990 for allegedly violating Texas Department of Criminal Justice policy by aiding an inmate. Her attorney says no prior notice was given and the college paean policy was not properly applied. The board deferred action at a February meeting and will decide at the March session.
Lee College will have a new administrator starting March 1 as Tom Sanders assumes the office of vice president left by Jerry Alston. Sanders, a Ada Oklahoma native, holds a PhD in political science from the University of Michigan and has taught at Lamar University. He will focus on SACS accreditation compliance and institutional research, bringing a background in academic affairs and a commitment to equal rights and access to education.
