Halliburton funds spark faculty concerns at Lee College

Lee College faces scrutiny over a $10,000 Halliburton grant awarded for curriculum development and faculty stipends. Faculty accuse limited notice, unequal distribution, and use of funds for duties already paid. Hall Kimbrell hired as college asbestos removal consultant

Lee College Regents approved Hall-Kimbrell Environmental Services to manage asbestos removal with a $43,500 fee. Hall-Kimbrell, atop the nation's asbestos consultants, will oversee employee training and actual removal, and serve on call for future needs. A draft plan will go to the Building and Grounds Committee Feb 6, with bids later if approved.

Graduation deadline set for February fifteenth

Students who do not wish to graduate this spring and have at least 64 semester hours must apply in the admissions and records office by February 15. Those receiving graduation letters must respond by then. Last fall graduates may march with this spring group. Graduation fee rose from 15 to 17 dollars for cap and gown costs. Commencement is at 7 p.m. May 12. Contact Carol Dilling in the admissions and records office for details.

Moler Hall additions proceed on schedule

Moler Hall is being expanded by 2830 square feet to add administration offices a conference area records storage and a large testing zone with counselor offices. A new covered patio with skylights will give students a quiet zone with tables chairs and allowed food drinks. The project costs 214000 funded by a 110000 bond 30000 physical plant funds and 90000 Student Services funds. Contractor Trigon Incorporated reports progress and completion is expected around April 20 Weather permitting. The upgrade follows earlier Merry Christmas improvements to the Rebel Roost snack bar and notes a sewer line issue requiring plastic piping replacing concrete. Topper says the expansion is to handle growing student population and will precede the planned auditorium and science building projects.

College to buy Sears building for Lee College campus

Lee College has signed a contract to purchase the 711 W. Texas Ave property for 446,250 dollars. Additional costs include nearly 500,000 for asbestos removal and interior remodeling. Plans call for departments such as continuing education cosmetology fine arts and auto repair, with deans to review final layouts.

Lee College spring enrollment rises to about 4350

Lee College reports about 4350 students registered for the 1990 spring semester, up from 3972 last year, with roughly 10 percent more contact hours totaling 680,592. Dean Ed Monk cites stronger head counts and hours, plus growing phone registration at 12 percent of total enrollments.
