Lantern reports spring campus violations fell 25.6 percent from last year after Rundell Hall lot opened in January. Most tickets were for reserved spaces and unpermitted parking. 30 percent of 265 tickets involved no parking sticker. New policy places a hold on Social Security numbers for unpaid fines until paid, with fines tiered by offense.
At a April 20 community Q and A the Lee College administration urged a $5.5 million bond vote set for May 7 to meet government mandates and fund campus safety and classrooms. The Baytown Chamber of Commerce opposed the tax rise, while stressing they support LC but oppose higher taxes. The dispute centers on tax rates, bases, and past funding, with the chamber board voting to oppose after unanswered questions.
Lee College second baseman Shawn Schimming remains with the Rebel baseball team while his third degree felony case is pending. He was arrested April 20 for a Sept 15, 1987 burglary in the 2200 block of Eaves. Court date set for May 5. potential penalties include prison and fines.
About 235 degrees will be awarded May 13 at 7 p.m. in the LC gymnasium with 125 students actually participating. Dr. Richard Strahan will speak. honors include Hall of Fame, scholarships, and honorary degrees. Nursing grads to receive degrees May 11 in Moser Hall gameroom.
