Beaumont Texas September 12 The great oil fields are aflame fed by fuel oil. Workmen stand helpless as flames spread across hills surrounding 410 producing wells. Experts say no chance to stop the blaze until it burns out destroying the industry. Dense smoke obscures the sky from Spindle Top as fire began yesterday along the Texas and Sabine railroad and spread from waste oil to settling tanks.

Killing at Scranton shocks town in double tragedy
Special to The State from Scranton on September 12 reports Louis Mouzon, a young Black man, shot dead by Melton Williamson when resisting a warrant served for alleged theft. Tragic Rock Fall Kills Greenville Boy Joe Grealish
A group of boys at the Carolina cotton mills area dug around a large rock estimated at 2000 pounds. It rolled down an embankment, trapping Joe Grealish who suffered fatal injuries. He died early next morning after surgery at Greenville sanitarium. Joe, about 12 or 13, was the only child of Mrs. Sophia Grealish.

Prominent Southern Colonel Garnett Dies by Suicide
Col. John G. Garnett a West Point graduate and Confederate artillery officer under Gen. Lee was found dead in his New York hotel room after ingesting carbolic acid. Two Manslayers Sentenced to Life Imprisonment
In Spartanburg on September 13 Frank Jones alias Babe Jones received a life sentence after being convicted of murder. A motion for a new trial for Bud Burns, convicted of murder with recommendation to mercy, was denied and Burns was sentenced to life in the State penitentiary. Sessions court adjourned sine die. Court of common pleas to convene Monday morning with Judge Buchanan presiding.
