A chaotic scene in Orangeburg as Corbett, a 125 pound Black man, barricades his home and fires on two policemen DeMars and Lase during a tense standoff. A crowd gathers, shots are fired, and Mayor Dukes intervenes to secure Corbett’s arrest amidst tensions between Black and white residents. No one injured. The governor offers rewards in separate cases including manslaughter and robbery.

A detachment of 20 men from the Twenty fourth regiment repairing telegraph wires near San Jose Nueva Vizcaya was attacked by rebels. Seven escaped to San Jose, others captured. Nearby by Takloban on Leyte Island three Americans were killed at first volley. two escaped to warn others. Native police of Takloban conspired to surprise the Americans. bodies of dead soldiers were mutilated.
Special to News and Courier from Aiken South Carolina reports Frank P Beard editor and proprietor of Graniteville News died suddenly on a Charleston train between Augusta and Graniteville or Aiken. He boarded at Augusta Broad Street and expired soon after. a passenger in his seat did not notice. Body removed at Warrenville Coroner Lee notified. Beard had appeared in normal health in Aiken the day before catching the 9:20 pm train.
Wartime dispatches report Capt Elliott of the Fortieth Infantry surprising rebel forces in Mindanao and capturing Glen Alvarez and staff, aiding pacification efforts. Separately, Confederate Memorial Association plans to reclaim and reinter the Southern dead from Northern cemeteries, coordinating with United Daughters of the Confederacy to publish death lists and arrange reburials, including Richmond's Hollywood cemetery site for unclaimed Confederate soldiers.
News of the death of Win L. Wilson, formerly postmaster general and congressman, arrives from Lexington Virginia.
