Lancaster Mercantile Company announces Miss Evans will create a new Parisian hat for the season after travels in Europe and Paris. They praise the Dress Goods, trimmings, silks and velvets, claiming an unmatched line in the state and promising a strong novelties collection.
In Middlesborough Kentucky on October 7 a feud at the Big Springs Union Baptist church near the Tennessee line left four dead and four wounded. The slain were Lip Chadwell James Chadwell Rush Morgan and Henry Morgan. Wounds included Henry Overstreet and Robert Jones mortally, John Morgan with a leg broken and Joe Moberley with a flesh wound. The Morgans of Virginia and Chadwells of Tennessee have fought since the Civil War, with dozens killed on both sides.
In Middlesborough Kentucky Oct 8 two wounded men Morgan and Ross Chadwell died after a night of factional fighting at Union Baptist church near Big Springs Virginia bringing total dead to six. A large armed group led by Bud Chadwell Len Chadwell and Joe Dooley left Middlesborough to join Chadwell forces. It is feared serious clashes will follow. Augustus Morgan father of the slain boys and a peace advocate reportedly seeks to broker quiet.
