Georgetown Ky Oct 6 The court of appeals granted new trials for former Secretary of State Caleb Powers and James Howard in the Goebel murder case. Powers will be tried in Georgetown next Tuesday after transfer from Frankfort, while Howard faces execution originally. Asheville N C October 2 the preliminary trial of Sheriff J J North charged with the murder of Walter Blankenship last August began today under a military guard of 50 men from the Third regiment commanded by Col E J Higdon. The case follows a mob shooting incident during the Jim Brown case. Brown was executed here under military guard from Birmingham. The atmosphere remains tense and the militia is expected to stay for about ten days.
