Elephant killed on ship in Barnum & Bailey act
Mandarin the 5 ton Bull elephant of Barnum & Bailey was strangled aboard the Minneapolis by a two inch rope attached to a winch. The method killed him in eight minutes, the cage then sunk with 5000 pounds of railroad iron. He had been with the circus 24 years and stood nine feet ten inches high.
