Freight wreck near Laurens halts trains for days
A Charleston and Western Carolina freight wrecked three miles south of Laurens early today on the Augusta line. Engineer Wal McKinney of Augusta and County Gaines, a colored train hand, were killed in the mangled wreckage. The fireman escaped with slight injuries as a broken engine flange likely caused the wreck, with track torn up for miles and service disrupted for a day or two.
