Crowds throng the store daily as customers wait for service while sales staff stay on the move. Managers tout unbeatable prices that leave time merchants unable to compete, drawing cash buyers to the lowest prices reported.
A Lancaster advertises huge discounts in clothing and footwear. Craddock Terry & Co shoes in tan and black offered at 3.00, 2.50, and 2.25 for various styles. Ladies misses and children's footwear advertised with rapid sellout. Millinery sold at bargain prices, with slightly imperfect pants also on sale as part of the large liquidation.
In Philadelphia on May 12 a rear end collision in a tunnel near Fairmount Park killed Engineer George Loeb and Fireman Lee Hitson, with five suspected tramp victims. A fire followed, injuring about a dozen firefighters. the operator Frank Lantel, asleep at his post, disappeared as police seek him.
Special to The State Kingstree May 12 reports a collision of two New York bound freight train sections in a tunnel after a derailment. fatalities include a fireman and brakeman. a ten year old girl was assaulted but escaped serious harm. The alleged attacker Stephen McGil was captured and jailed awaiting trial.
A negro named Lige Patterson was punished by a local posse for improper proposals to a white woman. He died in jail after a preliminary examination dismissed the case due to absence of the alleged prosecutor. Patterson is said to be guilty beyond a doubt. Previously another similar punishment was reported. A separate note reports the murder of Alex Whitney by Gus Wilson, a negro, on a streetcar in Augusta. Crowds and police presence grew as word spread of a possible lynching.
An elderly white man calling himself Dr Williams once peddled medicine near Fayetteville. Stricken by paralysis and poor, he was placed in the county home where he confessed his real name is Quarles. He said he deserted his wife and children at Littleton years ago. His son, now prosperous, has brought the old man to live with his family.
A promotional note asserts that a lovely woman needs good health to maintain charm. It links constipation and bad blood to pimples and a dirty complexion, then touts Electric Ditters as a cure for stomach liver and kidney regulation and blood purification. Claimed benefits include strong nerves bright eyes smooth skin and a rich complexion with a run down invalid becoming attractive. Available for 50 cents at Crawford Bros Deng Store.

Special to Greenville News reports bail granted for Johnson in the Bamberg murder case of young Bellinger, with $2000 bond. Lt Col Robt Abirich and DS Henderson sought bail before Justice Pope. Senate Tillman is expected as a delegate to the national convention and Cot Willie Jones named. platform is described as likely easy unless expansion raises a snag.
Hannibal Me resident JB Lilly credits Dr King’s New Discovery for relief from typhoid fever and pneumonia. He says a single bottle brought rapid improvement and declares the medicine the quickest cure for throat and lung troubles, with 50 cent and 1 dollar sizes and free trials at Crawford Bros. Drug Store.
A Yorkville Yeoman urges farmers to sow rye and experiment with lucerne on small plots to boost forage, citing Dr RB Andeal Bratton’s six acre rye harvest and Buist’s Winthrop farm results. From an acre sown last fall Buist cut 527 pounds of hay with potential multiple cuttings.
An ad touts Kermott’s Chocolates Laxative Quinine as a candy like remedy for colds and sore throat. It urges readers to pay their subscription.
