Henry Grandy Acquitted in Beer-Dispenser Murder Case

Greenville May 6 Henry Grady was acquitted in general sessions court today of the murder of Otto Mace in a Washington Street beer dispensary last summer. He and Mace fought with beer bottles. Mace died three days later. Self defense evidence was presented and the jury was out about ten minutes.

Wakefield Acquitted In Wakefield Hicks Murder Trial

The Greenville jury found Tom Wakefield not guilty after two hours of deliberation in the murder case of Hicks near the old Block house by the North Carolina line. Ed Wakefield fled after escape from custody. Ed remains at large. Hicks, 19, a Union cotton mill section boss, died after a cocking party near the scene with several companions, with inquest returning death by natural causes and gasoline fumes.

Thomas Howze Found Dead in a Gasoline House

May 5. Thomas Howze son of a prominent local businessman was found dead in a gasoline tank at the rear of a residence. He had worked for Bailey Lumber and Manufacturing and was sent to the tank the previous afternoon. His prolonged absence from work led to discovery hours after the incident.

Runaway buggy saved by Charlotte preacher hero

In Charlotte on May 6 Rev Dr M D Hardin pastor of Second Presbyterian saved 13 year old Laura Orders from a runaway buggy in the business district. He dashed in front of the team, wrecked the buggy, and pulled the girl to safety before medical aid. The preacher, son of a former Kentucky governor, drew a large crowd as the rescue occurred.

Lancaster County magistrates taxed only when needed

In a Monday meeting the board of county commissioners passed a resolution directing that no magistrate in Lancaster County will be paid for holding an inquest unless it is impossible to secure the coroner. Tornado Devastates Owl Indian Territory

A Oklahoma City dispatch to The Record reports a tornado struck Owl I T causing over 50000 in damage to business districts. Two people were killed ten injured four fatally. Almost all town’s businesses were destroyed and about 500 homes swept away. Trees were hurled into the town and a sole school building was demolished injuring students.

For Love Woman Shoots Herself In Hotel Imperial

A 38 year old woman believed to be Mrs J W Gray of New Orleans shot herself in her New York hotel room early today and died after being found unconscious. She had arrived April 20 with a man identified as Charles Stoneham. Letters addressed to Mrs J W Gray and to Charley were found among her effects. Stoneham, a Jersey City firm member, was said to be married. The case involves threats of suicide linked to the affair and a drowned son rumor.
