Alleged Lynchers Indicted in Eutawville Case

Orangeburg May 3 five accused in the Eutawville lynching case were arraigned in open court after confinement at Moncks Corner. Defense moved to quash the indictment but was overruled. The defendants pled not guilty and a trial date was set for next Wednesday. State witness Edwards, named in the true bill, has confessed and will testify.

Patterson Jury Declared Hopelessly Deadlocked in Patterson Case

New York May 5 Having failed to reach a verdict the Nan Patterson jury was formally discharged at 2 20 this morning. The 12 jurors deliberated twelve hours after being impaneled at 1 30 yesterday and informed Recorder Goff they could not agree. The foreman said the disagreement seemed hopeless of adjustment and the 12 jurors were discharged. It was believed a majority favored acquittal, though exact proportions were not known.

Mickle Acquitted in Orangeburg Murder Trial

After four witnesses testified, defense counsel moved for verdict of not guilty in the murder case of William Mickle. The State assented. Oliver, conductor on the Southern local freight train from Charleston on April 6, was killed. Mickle was one of his brakemen.
