Dry Weather Wrecks County Crops and Gardens

The News and Courier reports severe stress from a dry week across Lancaster county with drought hitting crops beyond cotton which remains least affected. Old corn is tasseled and likely to yield little, gardens fail, and growers cite worm damage as a major factor alongside insufficient rain. A Riverside farmer, Wilson Sistare, uses sand on corn stalks to deter pests, a method said to work in every tested case. The cot ton plant grows despite drought, and county officials warn the situation is serious.
