Special to The State from Darlington June 12 at the June term of court will hear several murder cases described as harrowing in cruelty. Alfred Jacobs, jailed after shooting John Bud in his home, confessed after capture by bloodhounds. Clarence Hooler is his accomplice. Jule Gibson, in the adjoining cell, killed his brother Perry over a plug of tobacco and buried him in a field then planted corn on the grave. he has confessed. The paper seeks a speedy trial and notes possible rape cases after Solicitor Johnson completes murder trials.
Six Honea Path men who formed a cotton theft gang pled guilty after returning from Anderson court. They faced sentences from two to six years for stealing about 15 bales including two owned by A W Mc David, with evidence showing five bales. The group had articles of agreement threatening death for informants.
Wm Creighton, a long time Rock Hill founder and bogey company representative, died suddenly at his Green Street home after a trip to the reunion in Louisville and an illness in Cincinnati. He was 53 and had lived near Rock Hill all his life. Plans for the State Capitol works ready for contractor bids starting July 2 with advertisements to be issued in Columbia and Charlotte.
Yesterday at about two o'clock, Mr Chapman, a contractor, was held up in broad daylight on the road beyond Hyatt Park. He was severely beaten and robbed of over $100 in cash. Two young men committed the deed. one has been arrested and jailed, the other is known and to be arrested by morning. The city received ugly reports of the crime, and both suspects face severe punishment.
Columbian correspondence in the Charleston Post reports Senator Tillman will leave the South Carolina delegation for the summer. He plans to campaign for Pettigrew in South Dakota while helping the national Democratic effort in other states. He may attend some Orangeburg meetings but will not tour all counties.

Spartanburg June 12 The Wofford College board of trustees has persuaded Dr James H Carlisle to act as president for another year. The announcement was the highlight of commencement week and generated great enthusiasm.

Saturday night two brothers Jim and Pete Robinson became involved in a quarrel that ended with Pete killing Jim. An old musket was used, firing ninety five shots with several entering the heart at close range. Pete, who will plead self defense, dragged the body into the house and then went to sleep. Pete is jailed.
Darlington June 13 ownership and management of the colon mill has undergone radical changes. Capt Coker has sold all his interests to Deering Milliken & Co and his brother and sisters have also sold their interests, leaving a new entirely management team in charge.
Laurens authorities recaptured the Negro desperado John Coles who led a jail delivery last Saturday. He resisted in Coronaca and was taken by Constable Sharpe to Greenwood, then returned to Laurens in the custody of Sheriff McCrary.

A Spartanburg prohibitionist conference in the county courthouse discussed rallying support for state legislative races. Prominent men including Capt Yo Martin J JH Dodd DW Willis CP Sanders and Dr Dora L Wolford were proposed as legislators. Wofford alumni met to note a debt on the gymnasium and applauded Capt WE Burnett for a large donation to cover the rest.
Governor Mount of Indiana declines to honor Kentucky Governor Beckham's requisition for the return of W D Taylor Col Tom Campbell Goebel and Sheri Suter. Campbell argues Taylor would receive a fair Kentucky trial, noting others charged in the case were not molested. Mount later states he will consider the matter after reviewing evidence copies.
