Biennial Sessions Bill Clears Third Reading in House
In Columbia on January 27 the House fought a hard battle to defeat the biennial bill on third reading. An aye and nay vote at noon followed extended roll calls. The bill passed 83 to 27, narrowly meeting the required two thirds. New measures emerged, including harsher penalties for safe crackers and greater disclosure of politicians traveling on free passes. A Col. John P. Thomas letter laments lost Confederate rolls and urges a thorough investigation by the General Assembly.
