Fatal Accident in a Durham Mill Claims Foreman Life

Durham January 17 Special to The Observer J L Wright a 34 year old white foreman at Erwie Mill died after his belt caught him pulling in a belt causing his body to be jerked to the ceiling. His right leg was torn off at the hip as blood spattered the machinery and bowels were thrown about. He died eight to ten minutes later with no help available. The accident occurred in view of many workers and the limp remained on the shafting until the machines were stopped.

Last evening J E Burke of the Char tevtell bar a prominent circuit judge candidate withdrew from the race to succeed Judge Boust. The remaining candidate was C Dantzler of Orangeburg, making Burke’s withdrawal likely to lead to Dantzler’s unopposed selection to replace Judge Benet who has declined reelection. The State.

Pink Norman Killed Near Cherokee Falls in Gaffney

Special to The State from Gaffney South Carolina details a Friday evening fight one mile east of Gaffney near Cherokee Falls. Multiple shots were fired and a man named Cobb shot and killed Pink Norman. All involved are white residents near the Broadriver area. Sheriff Thomas and a posse captured Cobb and jailed him in the city.
