John Miller a Black man told police in Tampa he was attacked by a white mob eight miles from Port Tampa City last night. He said a rope was placed around his neck and he was dragged into the woods where they attempted to lynch him. Miller escaped and was held for safety.
Admiral Schley met with the president to appeal the court of inquiry verdict. He plans a new appeal with assistance from Raynor and Teague, aiming to overturn the majority findings. The interview was cordial but left Schley dissatisfied, and he disclosed no details beyond presenting his perspective.

Thursday morning the railway safe at Carlisle was blown open by burglars with over $1,000 in money gone. Elliott & Crawford moved their office and business, noting all notes and accounts are at the new office. They claim to have moved buggies and wagons to their stables and urge settlement of debts.

W. B. Plyler issues a trespass warning for lands two miles west and two miles south of town, named Jasper Canningham, Chafees, J P Hunter lands, with boundaries defined by local owners and roads. The notice warns of strict enforcement. Also notes Governor Aycock names February 25 for six hangings.
An advertisement asserts Hall's Cardiac Cure treats heart disease by blood and mucous surfaces. It features endorsements claiming reliability of F J Sheney and listings of wholesale druggists Kinman Marvin Toledo Ohio. The copy touts price and free testimonials while urging purchase through local druggists.
Washington January 4 a house war claims committee favorably acted on a bill to compensate ex Confederate soldiers for horses saddles bridles and side arms taken under the surrender terms by generals Lee Johnson Grant and Sherman introduced by Representative Padgett of Tennessee
