City publishes a 1905 license ordinance detailing fees for numerous trades and professions. It lists per year charges for attorneys, physicians, merchants, hotels, livery stables, printers, banks, and many other businesses, plus penalties for nonpayment and transfer rules.
The ordinance requires able bodied men aged 18 to 50 within the town limits to work streets and sidewalks for up to six days per year unless they pay a two dollar commutation tax or hire a substitute. Failure to comply incurs a fine or imprisonment. The measure repeals conflicting ordinances and was ratified December 19, 1904.
