Boiler explosion at Lexington destroys dry house

Two 20-horse power boilers exploded at Gross Lumber Manufacturing in Lexington collapsing the dry house. Owner Fred H Gross possibly fatally injured while nearby. Brickyard operator Jasper D Trice hurt by flying timber and steam, breaking his right arm but surviving.

House Committee OKs Fertilizer Manufacturing Plan

A special legislative committee reports in favor of the State entering fertilizer production and distribution to serve citizens at cost. It deems the fertilizer trust a public enemy and says a 100000 ton plant costing 529,188 dollars is feasible with convict labor and a sinking fund to support phosphate loans.

Arrests Made in Newry Infant Case Involving Tinch Bowen

Last week W J Tinch and his wife were arrested at Greenwood and Mre Bowen, sister of W J Tinch, was arrested at Townville and jailed in Valhalla on a warrant. They are charged in connection with an infant found beneath a Newry house. The child belonged to Mrs Bowen, who lived with the Tinch family. Bowen's husband is in a Georgia penitentiary for counterfeiting. The infant was wrapped in pants and left under a Courtney Manufacturing Company property house. The Tinches and Mrs Bowen face arraignment at the next Oconee term.

Washington January 80 The supreme court today ruled against Swift and Co and other beef trust companies in an appeal from the federal court injunction in the northern district of Illinois restraining their illegal combination to restrain competition in buying live stock and selling dressed beef.
