A Charleston correspondent sent a recipe claimed to cure both smallpox and scarlet fever. The letter describes a preparation with zinc sulfate and foxglove with water, to be taken hourly, claiming cures in twelve hours and suggesting usage for children with smaller doses. Frankfort Kentucky December 11 Governor Beckham was inaugurated today in a grand ceremony. Also appears a classified ad seeking an active man of good character to deliver and collect for an old established wholesale house in South Carolina with $908 yearly earnings, references required.
Columbia Dec 11 The Supreme Court in Dean versus Spartanburg County holds all special legislation unconstitutional and that county acts must follow the constitution. General acts cannot exempt a county. provisions must be based on population and conditions with age groups set on reason. The decision will require changing many existing acts and promote new style legislation, ending much general legislation.
Bamberg reports a sensational case after Mrs BP McMillian nee Miss Jessie E Mitchell was arrested in a Bamberg dry goods store and hurried to Charleston on accusations by her husband of adultery. The young woman, 19, says she signed a signed affidavit under pressure to obtain a divorce and avoid humiliation. No local prominent figures named relation to the affair.
Walter Sharp a young Lexintonian was fatally hurt when a hunting party from Lexington West of Brookland stopped near Lonlat ee Swamp. An altercation over a bottle led to Mathie striking Sharp who fell and hit his head on a rock. He died that night despite medical aid after lingering in severe distress. Mrs. 1 Bb Hunt of Lime Ridge Wisconsin faced a grim prognosis from doctors for stomach trouble and jaundice. After seven bottles of Electric Bitters she recovered fully, avoided surgery, and now weighs well and feels strong. A stray large black barrow hog, about 250 pounds, left Nov 16, with reward offered for information.
