Covington Tennessee August 26 nineteen prisoners in the county jail attempted a breakout in the jailer's absence. The jailer's wife armed with a shotgun and a negro treaty blocked the action, covering the prisoners and forcing them to retreat to their cells until the jailer returned.

Lancaster Town Dog Tax Levy Enacted
The town's mayor and aldermen impose an annual one dollar tax on each dog kept within Lancaster limits. Owners must pay by January 1, 1963 and every year, then receive a collar tag from the police chief. Unpaid dogs found at large are impounded with a twenty five cent recovery fee, plus seizure costs.
