Tragedy in Hart County: Ed McConnell's son James harms self
In Anderson, news arrives from Hart County Georgia of James McConnell, son of Ed McConnell, attempting suicide by cutting his throat after wedding plans. The 22 year old, once living near Starr in Anderson area, was reportedly married the prior day to Miss Teasley and is said to be not expected to live. Senator John L. McLaurin traveled through the city en route to Bennettsville.

Mell, 42, connected with Alabama Polytechnic Institute at Auburn for 20 years, is a Baptist and celebrated educator. Two Five-Story Brick Buildings Collapse in Brooklyn
In Brooklyn on Aug 30 two five story brick buildings on Fulton Street collapsed scattering tons of brick mortar beams and coffee into the street and onto the elevated structure and trolley tracks. Twenty five thousand bags of coffee owned by J H Taylor and Smith Walbridge of Manhattan were stored inside. Remarkably no one was in the buildings or on nearby sidewalks and no trolley cars were present. Loss estimated at about 860000.
