Bullet Through Convict’s Body Fatal Accident At Prison

A guard’s accidental discharge of a Winchester at a penitentiary near Shelby killed a black convict named G Irby, 36, from Laurens. Irby, jailed for assault on a girl, died after being struck on the side as he emerged from shelter with others. An inquest to be held at the penitentiary. Nearby notes report on a York county murder suspect known as Jim Lowry, later identified as John Jenkins, with tied burglaries and letters about arrests.

Conductor Lands From Moving Train and Is Killed

Conductor Maclin Rufus Land of Southern freight train No. 73 fell from his exbanse near Ayersville Georgia Friday morning and was instantly killed after the engine failed and the second section tried to assist. Land was in charge of the first section, and a jolt during coupling left Lash on top of the caboose run over. The body was badly disfigured and taken to Atlanta.
