We call special attention to our grocery department greatly enlarged and improved with prompt delivery. All kinds of produce bought and sold at market price. During the next 30 days we make special prices on everything in our grocery department. Many items are cost and even less. We aim to make our stores the best trading place in this part of the State.
Heavy rains cripple the Spartanburg to Asheville route. Saluda mountain slides submerge the roadbed causing long delays. A cave in on Swannanoa tunnel kills section master Robinson. Wrecking crews and bridge forces race to clear rail lines amid the worst conditions in years.
A guard’s accidental discharge of a Winchester at a penitentiary near Shelby killed a black convict named G Irby, 36, from Laurens. Irby, jailed for assault on a girl, died after being struck on the side as he emerged from shelter with others. An inquest to be held at the penitentiary. Nearby notes report on a York county murder suspect known as Jim Lowry, later identified as John Jenkins, with tied burglaries and letters about arrests.
Mr. W. L. Brissey of this city holds the contract to build a two story bath room for Congressman A C Latimer at Belton and will start work in a few days. The project is valued at about $500 or $600.
An advertisement touts Cascarets Candy Cathartic as a guaranteed remedy for chronic constipation. It asserts the product is a positive discovery of recent years with genuine tablets and warns it is never sold in bulk.
Conductor Maclin Rufus Land of Southern freight train No. 73 fell from his exbanse near Ayersville Georgia Friday morning and was instantly killed after the engine failed and the second section tried to assist. Land was in charge of the first section, and a jolt during coupling left Lash on top of the caboose run over. The body was badly disfigured and taken to Atlanta.
In Sadiaville Kentucky Mrs S P Whitaker suffered chronic bronchial illness until her husband credited Dr King's New Discovery with her recovery.
