Big Reunion in Dallas Draws 125000 Visitors
The Confederate reunion in Dallas on April 22 drew an estimated 125000 visitors with 80000 at the camp grounds. General Gordon arrived dramatically to cheers after a long delay and delivered an eloquent speech. Texas officials and many veterans filled the 8000 seat hall as the event opened with lavish displays and a parade anticipated to follow. Colonel Slaughter and other veterans spoke to the crowd, praising Texas hospitality and the gathering’s significance for veterans nationwide.
