Special to The 8 Yorkville April 1 The court of general sessions opened Monday the 14th instant. The criminal docket was heavy with about a half dozen murder cases and many pleas of guilty. A large delegation will go to the penitentiary with sentences from five years to life. The county chain gang will receive 18 or 20 new recruits.
The Eastover postoffice safe was blown open Friday night by safe blowers and about 250 dollars in stamps and money secured by the robbers. Five men with coats off were seen six miles from Eastover toward Columbia. citizens pursued toward Columbia but saw no trace. The bandits are believed to be hiding in the Congaree swamp near Columbia, and may have spent Friday in the city.
Florence reports the death of Rev R W Gregg an evangelist who trusted in faith cure and refused medicine or nourishment during a two week typhoid pneumonia illness He only met a physician once and died at the home of State Constable Rowell Also Senator John L McLaurin cannot attend May 20 unveiling of the Shipp monument with Col J P Thomas delivering the principal address.
William D Boykin died Friday night after a brief illness caused by pneumonia. Funeral services were held Saturday at 5 PM from the Episcopal church in Camden.
