First Standard Rig in Position in Wyoming Oil Field
The first standard rig in western Wyoming’s La Barge field is set and ready to begin operations on the 15th. The Pyramid Oil and Refining Co. rig, a $4 foot derrick, stands along the Kemmerer-Piney road and will be “spudding in” soon. A visitor would notice the pyramid name on the Downey Building in Kemmerer, housing Pyramid’s offices with Mr. Davis as president.

Five More to Leave Lincoln County Soldiers Drafted

Superintendent Joseph E. Burch notes very large enrollment in District No 1 with Frontier sending over 200 students to work and enough pupils to shift the seventh grade to Kemmerer. Kemmerer High School has 62 enrolled with 16 freshmen 21 sophomores 14 juniors and 7 seniors plus additional specials.

Big Evanston Fire Destroys Insane Asylum Ward Building
Fire in Evanston destroyed the Wyoming State Insane Asylum big men's ward, estimated loss £250,000. Cause suspected defective wiring. No injuries reported. Only basement food and some furniture saved. Other buildings spared amid low water pressure. Afton attorney Carl Cook was in Kemmerer and planned a city visit.

Guilty pleas mark District Court sessions
Judge John R. Arnold handled routine matters last week as John H. Atkins and John Hensley pled guilty to horse stealing. Sentences ranged from one to four years for Atkins and one to one and a half years for Hensley. Divorce actions were heard, including Lena Gray and Mrs. Harrington, Ida Fisher, and Alese Glass cases, with alimony and fees awarded in some filings. A youth named Ray Fisherman was declared insane and committed to Evanston asylum. Naturalization petitions were granted to several individuals, and other estate matters and hearings were continued or resolved as noted.
