Death of Ranch Hand John Ivenson Near Cokeville

The body of ranch hand John Ivenson was found with head and one arm severed at a Coca Cola dipping corral area. He reportedly died near Cokeville Monday morning after a drunken stumble. Coroner J F Fitzpatrick is in charge. no relatives have been heard from.

Proclamation Urges Kellmerer Businesses Closed for Liberty Bond Sale

The President and state Governor urge abstention from normal pursuits on October 24 1917 to aid Liberty Loan disposal. Kemmerer Mayor J Peter Gordon Jr asks all citizens to close businesses from noon to 6 pm on that Wednesday to promote bond sales. Town Clerk James P Rosenberg attests the proclamation.

Communities Close Shops For Liberty Loan Drive

Government and local officials urge all businesses in Kemmerer to shut at noon for a major Second Liberty Loan drive closing Saturday night. The plan includes a bonfire at the B F H Store and student participation as Lincoln County pursues a $200 000 county quota amid rising national totals. Local progress stands at about $100 000 with further gains expected from surrounding districts this week.

Double Tragedy Drowns Two Conroy Youths During Duck Hunt

Two youths, Chas Rose age 13 and Earl Daniels age 15, drowned at Gabardi reservoir near Conroy while duck hunting Monday afternoon. An eight year old witness saw a leaky boat overturn while the boys retrieved ducks. both disappeared and were found dead after a 24 hour search with digging and draining efforts continuing.

Pleaded Guilty After Escape Shows in County Court

Ed Fay, once an escapee, was brought before Judge John R. Arnold last Saturday and pleaded guilty to the charge. He received a six year penitentiary sentence. Levi Heap Thayne A Rashalda Oakley Harry Julian Sage and Pete Sartorello Glencoe paid liquor fines totaling 1250 each, with county liquor fines aggregating 3250 collected in recent months.

Second Term of Court Opens in Lincoln County

The flat fall term of the Third Judicial Court in Lincoln County opens Monday November 5 at Kemmerer. The 1917 district court session is now two annual terms after a new law. About 17 criminal cases on the docket include Daniel Creedon an escapee, assault and battery, F M Trenace obtaining money by false pretenses, and peentth with intent to leas.

City Wins Case Over Saloon Openings in Kemmerer

Sigmund Kohn’s bid to open a Triangle saloon failed after the Wyoming Supreme Court upheld a district court ruling in favor of the town of Kemmerer. The decision, issued October 17, ends a months long dispute over Kohn’s license and sale of liquor, with Kohn vowing to continue operations under a new year license.

Diamondville Coal and Coke Company Accused of Fraud

U S District Attorney Rigdon files in Cheyenne federal court alleging Diamondville Coal and Coke Company fraud in coal land acquisitions worth over a million dollars. Suit seeks restoration of lands to the government and an accounting for nearly two decades of mining profits. The complaint claims officers bribed entrymen to file on lands and obtain patents, with costs paid by the company. Patents issued at Evanston are noted.
