Word reaches us that Wm. Carlisle, the infamous train bandit fresh from Rawlins prison, boarded U P train No. 19 at Rock River station last evening with passes and bloodhounds on his trail. He robbed passengers using his usual bold method and escaped with about $400. Full details are unavailable.
Carl Dickey, a Kemmerer High School 1909 graduate and former editor of the Kairmin at Montana, is appointed assistant professor of journalism at Columbia School of Journalism. A Columbia alumnus (1915), he served on the New York Times staff and covered Mexico border duty, WWI era dispatches, and major events from London to Liverpool. He is noted for his editorial policy and ties to Montana's students and Tota Nu fraternity.
Arrangements are made for the annual Ball of the Kemmerer Lodge No. 1047 Loyal Order of Moons to be held at Cook's Pavilion on Saturday evening November 21. Neshwar Brothers orchestration will provide music and Kemmerer theatre acts are planned for next week as entertainment. Wm L Carlisle, who in 1916 led a series of Texas style train robberies on the Union Pacific between Cheyenne and Green River City, escaped Rawlins State Penitentiary by hiding in a shirt box. Bloodhounds pursue. guards had watched his prior rail robberies. Carlisle was serving a life term for three train robberies in 1916.
John B. Seaton, early Jackson Hole settler, arrived in Kenimerer after a monthlong trip from Opal with horses. He testified to the harsh roads and the loss of a wagon in Hoback canyon. He obtained a divorce decree from Judge Arnold on grounds of desertion with no opposition.
The state university of Loremie announces a ten week short course from January 5 to March 12. It targets men and women unable to join regular classes, offering practical training in sericulture and home economies with daily hands‑on instruction.
Wyoming miners resume production after a district wide accord with the national organization. Reports show high return rates in Kemmerer subsidiary mines and Diamondville with 95 to 97 percent back, and overall output expected to normalize soon as mines operate at full strength. Names include Botsto Endrio, Fred Bordotto, Dan Boro, Guido Sebastino, Ernest Sebastino, and Chester Sebastino, with the last three brothers recently from Superior.
The governor proclaims Thanksgiving in Wyoming noting national peace, renewed homes, and resources. He calls people to gratitude to God and sets Thursday November 27 as the day of observance and public service across the state.
Notice urges Lincoln County residents and woolgrowers to attend a Kemmerer gathering on Sunday November to form a county good roads association. The district court term opened with many men failing to appear, nine of thirty reported by noon. The State v. Win Johnson for embezzling two liberty bonds faced amendment and a continued trial. Joseph Johnson and co defendant William Sewell faced the Winslow murder case with a sworn jury. Sewell pleaded guilty to manslaughter. The Winslow murder, amid sensational testimony, will run two to three days. Lowell and Reynolds expected to provide dramatic testimony. The cattle case Hinkey King and related proceedings followed, with Preston aiding prosecutors and Melvin and Hawe Dongleman defending. The docket also includes Mag Nettis case and a potential no information filed against Garhardt for the Cumberland stabbing.
Revenue officers raid Riverton to detain three men and one woman Ute under federal changes. All offenders appeared before U S Commissioner Georgy F.
