The Lantha club and local civic bodies discuss housing shortages and a plan for a housing loan or building company. A Father and Son Banquet is proposed for November 2 to foster community ties. A committee will arrange the banquet and entertainment.
Mrs Mary Gardner longtime Star Valley resident died in Salt Lake City hospital from pneumonia. Born in Denmark on June 11 1890 she joined the Latter Day Saints and emigrated to Utah in 1850. She helped found a home at Afton and became a leading figure in the church. She and her husband raised a family and served in church leadership roles.
A new car care business named The Re New Auto Shop will open in Diamondville, focusing on painting, finishing, upholstering, repairs, and accessories. M R Aden will manage, bringing experience from Kemmerer Buick Sales, with a modern finishing shop, parts room, gas station plans, and renovations starting late this week in the former Saloon building one door south.
Lincoln County emerges as a notable region for school facilities and growth. The Wyoming Educational Bulletin chart lists Kemmerer High School at 120 students, Afton 90, Diamondville 40, Piney 14, Cokeville 24, Jackson 80, with Casper and Cheyenne leading grade enrollments. A state survey by the University links local districts to a broader county assessment, focusing on finances faculty and facilities, to be conducted in November.
Reports from the American Farm Bureau Federation headquarters say the California Farm Bureau Federation drive is meeting with great success on the coast. Gov. William D. Stephens joined early, photographed after signing, with Dr. W. H. Walker and Fred Harvey present as key figures in rural development.
Nellie Madsen eight years old daughter of Elmer Dladeen of Diamondville died Sunday after over three weeks of illness attributed to scarlet fever. She is survived by her father and several brothers and sisters. The family burial plans show Bloomington Idaho as the interment site with services there. Funeral arrangements were handled by the Boston Funeral Parlor.
Announcement by Oregon Short Line official J N Thomas states trains 5 and 6 will carry passengers between Pocatello and Kemmerer. Train 5 will stop only at McCammon and Pocatello, while train 6 stops at all stations but the coach is removed at Kemmerer. The change ends much of the earlier inconvenience after accommodation trains were discontinued.
Local notice announces the Brome Players will tour Kemmerer weekly two Mondays apart, presenting a three act drama that was well received. The Kemmerer Theatre stage is to be renovated to support the company, with enhanced scenery and improved audience experience. H Homer Stone and Miss Vinlu Heynes were praised, along with other troupe members, for Friday's performance and the effort to bring quality entertainment to the city all winter.
Washington report from the Department of Commerce notes the Census Bureau's mortality statistics for 1920 in the continental United States. Total deaths reached 1,142,578 with a rate of 18.1 per thousand, up from 12.9 in 1919, while pneumonia, heart disease, cancer, and other illnesses showed increases.
Miss Ethel Kerr of Valero California, a wartime Yeomanette in the navy at Mare Island California, arrives in Kemmerer this week to visit Mrs. Dan Howells.
Rock springs Wyoming announces Old Western Days under Archie Hay Post American Legion. Boel Spelume November 15 for three days revives pioneer era with costumed entertainers, dance hall, can can, roulette and fan tan, cowboys and cowgirls, many features drawing visitors back to the days of the frontier.
Senator Kendrick leads agricultural bloc to demand repeal of a rail funding provision that guaranteed railroads a profit. They argue the policy harms farmers and other industries while rates were cut by the Interstate Commerce Commission, though Section 15-A kept some net profit intact.
Dick Brown purchases the Stock Exchange from Peter Gordon Jr., ending nineteen years of Gordon leadership. The house, once run as a saloon, has operated as a soft drink establishment since Prohibition. Gordon will join B J Long at Chub Clothing Co. in a Long and Gordon partnership.
Three additional marriages reported in the past week include Thomas J Feeebuey of Granger and formerly of Kenimerer wedding Mins Woodie Smith at Salt Lake City home of Mrs C. H. Brown last Monday. Also noted is Laura inlet of Cembarland wedding D B Ballantyne of Rig ad at the Salt Lake Temple in October.
State enforcement officers S R Owens and E Meyers with deputies raided Kemmerer and nearby towns last week. Eight warrants were served in Kemmerer and surrounding locales including Diamondville and Sublet. Arrests followed in Dawn Cafe and Dewey Saloon cases.
The Frontier hall hosted a large Knights of Pythias masquerade with about 200 couples. Prizes went to Miss Lillng Crone and Miss Elaine Hilv y for best costumes, while Ray Elmer won the male prize. Dancing continued past 4 am. the next event is scheduled for November 180.
