Governor Joseph M. Carey designates Sunday May 12 1918 as Mothers Day in Wyoming. The proclamation urges reverence for mothers, asks churches and schools to observe the day, and recommends wearing a white carnation as the emblem.

Coal wage rise and direct settlement plan reported

The wage increase from 5 to 5.26 per cent is reported amid talks to abolish the conciliation board and move to direct grievance settlement. The sliding scale stays, with the case price rising from 1.50 to 4.75, and miners’ committees warned no eight hour day or other concessions.

Sheep Struggle Delays Lambing Movements Across Snowbound Trails

Bands of sheep migrating from the winter range pass the Bow River area on their way to lambing grounds. Food is scarce and many sheep are weak, with some bands losing more than in winter. After one day of shearing at Opal, work stopped due to cold weather and sheep condition, forcing search for new lambing grounds as deep snow blocks usual routes.

Building Nearing Completion in Kemmerer on Pine Ave

Victor Smith oversaw finishing work on the new M.8 Kemmerer building on Pine Avenue over the past week. The first floor will house Kemmerer Hardware and Furniture Co. upon completion, while Mrs. M. J. Blake will operate a nicely furnished rooming house on the upper floor for rent. The structure is described as a modern thoroughfare building.

New Auto Trip From Piney Enjoyed By Budds

John and Charley Budd of Big Piney traveled to Piney in under eight hours in a new Ford car. The trip was accident free until Kemmerer, where the vehicle shyed at a livery table and lost a latop while attempting to side the barn.

Kinney Visits Kemmerer Amid Snowbound Trails

Kinney arrives in Kemmerer on Thursday night driving from a sheep convoy headed to the Cakeville lambing grounds. Joe reports reaching the regular ground is impossible due to deep snow and alternative routes will be used this year. The bands wintered well and stood the trail nicely.

Call for Republican State Convention in Wyoming

The Republican State Central Committee of Wyoming calls a state convention in Cheyenne on May 4 to nominate electors, adopt a party platform, and select delegates to Chicago for the June 15 nominating event. Delegates allocated among counties, with 17 total delegates, per county tallies and law.

Growth in District No. 10 School Population Sparks Expansion

District No. 10 records 778 school age children, 17 more than last year, across seven schools. Two new teachers hired for the term, possible transfers to Kemmerer, and a public education exhibit at the Kemmerer school. Also notes a successful Bridger Lake duck hunt and oil location notices for sale at The Camera office.

Gattle Doing Fine in Big Piney Visit

C H Dunham of Big Piney visited Kemioror on Thursday en route to Salt Lake City. He notes cattle faced hay shortage and excess feed did not occur as late winter constraints ease. Green grass appears but cold slows growth. Ice on the creek nears break up. Snow was abundant in valleys, foothill residents report little more in the mountains. Dunham says new families settled this spring and are logging land to build homes and plan grain when weather allows.

Annual School Meeting set to elect director and discuss tax

The annual school meeting will be held in the school house next Monday evening. A director will be selected to fill the expiring term of R. M. Turner, who has served well. The meeting will also consider a special tax for the coming year and other business as may arise.

Ball Returns from Hot Springs After Winter Illness

Frank D Ball of Big Piney returns to the ranch after a rheumatism winter. His family stayed at Hot Springs, Ark. Gilbert Hayden managed Ball’s interests while he recovered. Watches repaired by Frank E Curtis keep time correctly as he notes.
