Kemmerer Red Cross reports show the drive nearly complete with linesin County exceeding quota and likely over 100 percent. A D Hoskins led the Kemmerer Chapter effort aiming for seven thousand dollars, with totals closing near the end of business.
McMinn, confined for a week at L. C. M. Hospital, shows little improvement and many friends are worried. Dr. Kindall says he had a bad day and conditions were not reassuring. He suffers from read pneumonia complicated by rheumatism in the legs and arms. The latest report indicates a turn for the worse with little hope of recovery.
Dr W A Hocker, recently back from California and improved, underwent a major operation this morning. The patient tolerated the procedure well and doctors are hopeful for recovery. Attending surgeons include Young of Rock Springs Abro of Cumberland Roach of Sublette Tucker of Diamondville and stafford and Roe of Kemmerer.
A sensational local item recounts a porch confrontation in Kemmerer between Bim Gullet and a disguised visitor. A gun discharges during a quarrel, a chase ensues, and Gullet seeks refuge in willows before surrendering to police after a late night escape attempt. The injured party is hospitalized and Gullet remains free on bail awaiting charges.
The first meeting of the new Town Council did not tackle the duplicate issue, citing heavier items needing attention first. Rumor hints at Tom Salmon's stance on the Gust stele Maelf, with the mayor to be consulted for views on this matter. Afterhours wind shifts were noted, possibly linked to a product being reallocated for airing.
A new train timetable took effect on Sunday with one train, No. 4, arriving at 2:16 a.m. under the old schedule. Reports from May 27 to June 1 describe a German offensive driving toward the Marne with Paris 45 miles distant, Allied rearguard actions and counterattacks. Cantigny and Rheims are noted as points of resistance, while American and British forces endure heavy fighting and casualties. By June 1 the drive slows as German wedges are held near the Marne and Allied defense tightens.
The Kemmerer town government shifted from Peter J. Gordon Jr. to T. Hunter Salmon last Monday night. The old council read year end reports as new Mayor Salmon began appointments, including Clerk J P Rosenberg and Police Justice N W Reynolds, with limited business and plans for street work and an adjourned meeting on June 10.
A loosely organized group calling themselves scouts paraded Kemmerer streets Friday night. Little is known about the secretive society as organizers avoided publicity. The parade was led by a member with a mongrel dog wearing an American flag around its neck.
