Disabled soldiers must receive more money
Washington reports the president vetoed a sundry civil bill with inadequate funds for the Federal Board for Vocational Education. He warned that cutting salaries would drive away skilled staff vital to rehabilitating disabled soldiers, sailors, and marines already in training and those to be added. The act, signed June 3, 1918, aimed to provide $6,000,000 and $80 monthly for single men and $100 for married men, to support vocational training and return veterans to civilian life. The move challenged Republican House leaders and their wellness-promotion efforts.
