Prisoner of War Diary Sees Courtrai Raid and Hardship
The narrative follows an American pilot captured after air battles, detailing two weeks in a Courtrai prison, daily rations of bread and chicory tea, and brutal conditions. He describes air raids, German guards, cooties, and the morale strain, plus small survivals like Belgian gifts and a bread lottery among officers.
