Organizing a Machine Gun Company at Kemmerer

The Kemmerer area moves to form a machine gun company within the state militia. About 53 men, including 3 commissioned officers, are to compose the unit with volunteers from Big Piney Pinedale and Kemmerer joining to meet the quota. Cheyenne Oil Men Arrive to Begin LaBarge Field Work

Cheyenne men L. Rigdon H. Ridgely Frank Bon and Ed Good arrived in Opal and plan to start developing the LaBarge field. They leased state lands and must begin drilling by June 1. Plains off rig and lumber are on the ground with seven carloads of materials en route. L Norton of the Plains Oil Company arrives in Kemmerer to oversee operations.

Cretaceous Begins Active Work at Big Piney Field

The Cretaceous Oil Company starts a major season at a field about 20 miles from Big Piney. A small crew has begun work as the Keystone drill moves toward oil bearing shale in the Hilliard formation. If needed, the well may reach 1600 feet or be deepened with a standard drill to explore further.

Nick Chix was shot in the face and nose during an alleged burglary attempt near a mine. Deputy Burdick fired as Chix hurled a rock, the weapon exploded on impact. A second man crawled through a window as officers arrived. both burglars detained for trial.

Wool Growers Aid Blanket Drive For Red Cross

Dr McClure secretary of the National Woolgrowers Association has launched a drive to raise 5000 dollars for Red Cross woolen blankets. Letters have begun going out and local offices report 360 dollars pledged so far. The plan originated during concerns over Mexico but was delayed.

Body of Lost Trapper Found Near Timber Island

The body of Mortis Locher, a lost trapper, was found Friday by Alfred Hespette about a quarter mile north of Timber Island and half a mile from the Locher ranch. A ski pole was nearby, the trap on the ankle, and a gun lay butt down in the snow with eyes on the ground. The incident suggests he may have fallen victim to a trap or exposure.

Murder at Salt Lake City Depot Involved Jealous Husband

Bartoletti, an Oakley man, shot and killed Amito Gaetano at the Union Pacific depot in Salt Lake City after learning Gaetano planned to kill Bartoletti’s wife. Bartoletti, who feared mistreatment of his wife, turned himself in and faces first degree murder charges.

Unfortunate widow awaits fate of Idaho husband in Canada

Rosa Moore, living with her mother in Kemmerer, learned her husband Henry Moore of Idaho had been killed in a collision while en route to Canada. Separated for over a year, the widow plans to stay in Kemmerer while seeking work as she cares for two children. The missing reunion letter preceded the fatal news.

Citizens primary nominates Gordon Brammer Piz for mayor and council

A crowded city hall meeting Friday nominated Peter Gordon for mayor and Stanley Brammer and Joe Piz for two council seats. Current council members A. J. Hogan and Willard Bell were slated to fill the present term. Officials say nominations were nearly unanimous and support remains strong.

Evening Youth Event Promises Entertainment and Dances

The hall will be decorated for a night of dances and performances for boys under sixteen at fifty cents a teket. The program features wrestling, boxing, a bear stunt, a Montrose comedy act, a drill demonstration, and a grand march. Tickets include 50 cent admission with seating arranged for comfort.
