Catholics to Build Church in City

Work on a new Catholic church began after months of preliminaries with Rev Thomas McNabee arriving recently to supervise. The building measures 32 by 50 with a parish house to be added, foundation work started this week, and a cornerstone ceremony planned in about two weeks. McNabee oversees projects from Rapid City to Ollaton, facing many Catholic congregations.

Receipts and Expenditures of Franklin School District 21

Statement from Franklin School District No. 21 Stanley County South Dakota for year ending June 30 1908. Receipts total 247 39 with 172 77 into Tuition Fund and no Interest or Sinking Fund. Kadoka Board Orders Saloon Fronts Rebuilt

Kadoka town trustees meet on July 21 1908 with J A Jones as chair. They order Frank J Robinson and Frank J Simek to remodel saloon fronts to meet section 2845 of the political code and appoint committees for Ways and Means Auditing Accounts Streets Alleys and Public Works. Bills for election clerks and supplies are read and approved. The board adjourns.

A group of merchants including Johnson & Moore Chaster & Co G Skrove Chamie & Beraney Holtman & Elston A Zemanek and Kapoxa Drug Co agree to close at eight oclock each weekday except Saturday when they may stay open later.

Justice Case Narrows Wire Theft In City Yards

Justice Stevenson hears the case of George Rumsey and his sons Herbert and Walter after a railway wire theft at local yards. Rumsey admits guilt but blames the boys. he receives a $30 fine with $42 costs, while the boys are fined $50 each but remitted for good behavior. Detective J W Cowan uncovers the confession and warns further prosecutions for similar wire thefts if settlements are not made.

Buchanan Bros and Yankee Robinson Circus to Visit Friday

The Buchanan Bros and Yankee Robinson combined railroad circus will roll into town Friday August 7 bringing elephants camels tigers and a full menagerie. The show travels in its own two section train with a flying squadron and a main section arriving at 4 am and 7 am respectively. If a double header occurs the full train may arrive by 6 am and unloading begins immediately after breakfast with tents and act props set by ten o'clock for a noon street parade.
