Note on Christmas Cyanide Tragedy Linked to Joliet Drama

A senseless tale unfolds around a note written on a two dollar bill on Christmas Day 1967 by an educated Indian man. He planned to buy cyanide of potash and end his life in the Joliet woods after a betrayed romance. No body has been found, and authorities remain uncertain if the event occurred as described or if the body lies hidden in the Joliet forest.

Democrats Go to Meet Their Leader in Illinois

Dellwood band of twenty four pieces under Walter E West impressed locals and visiting Joliet Knights with concerts in Harper House lobby and Spencer Square. The Joliet band of about thirty played a concert in Harper House rotunda to enthusiastic applause.

In a morning meeting of the Board of Local Improvements William Moran was granted a $1000 installment for Franklin Street sewer work. The bond of sidewalk contractor Martin Johnson was approved. Mayor Cronin was absent and Superintendent John Friedrichs presided.

Frato Injured After Fall Into Street Sewer

Alphonso Frato fell into an open sewer excavation on Jackson Street and broke his right leg. An ambulance took him to St. Joseph's Hospital, with responders reaching the scene at Collins and Jackson streets last night.

L. S. Schroeder of Bismark North Dakota died in St. Joseph's hospital Joliet after being run down by a Chicago car near the Eleventh street crossing in Lockport. He suffered brain injuries and died at two. An inquest was held by Coroner Noel and relatives were notified. The man had borrowed money here and elsewhere and was identified through his meal ticket.

Train on Santa Fe Hits Freight in Kansas

Telegraph Special reports two railroad accidents on October 19. In Kansas City, J L Smith of Nevada Missouri was killed and six injured when a Troost Avenue streetcar on a hill lost control and crashed into its follower. In Newton, Atchison Topeka Santa Fe No 17 freight collision with a Chicago bound train killed the engineer and injured twenty five passengers.

Will County Sanitary District compromise cuts assessment

A court in Will County approved a negotiated settlement reducing the Sanitary District’s assessment by about one million dollars. Representative Neils Jull and County Treasurer August Ehrhardt exchanged funds as the order was signed, with officials calling the terms equitable for both the county and the district. The agreement followed lengthy review of costs and materials for the Lockport area and deep waterway plans.
