Gotlieb Hoffman was seriously burned while fighting flames on the John Fridley farm southeast of Elwood yesterday. The blaze damaged the Florence area farm and injured Hoffman during the blaze response.

A late day fire burned a hog stock and grain structures, kept burning through the night, with neighbors on guard duty. Hoffman sustained burns early, treated by a physician, and sent home. Reports from his home say he endures great pain and will be laid up for weeks.
