Kendall County Oil Drilling Under Way Near Crystal Springs

The Kendall County Developing company begins drilling on the Thurow farm south of the Fox River near Crystal Springs five miles from Yorkville. A derrick and equipment are in place with 1000 foot contract, though experts think oil may be reached at about 500 feet. Promoters from Chicago, Sandwich, Yorkville and Plano back the venture.

Bazaar Promises To Be Most Signal Success

The second annual bazaar at St. John s English Lutheran church opened yesterday and looks set to exceed last year s. The lecture room walls display autumn decorations with many booths including novelty store fancy goods aprons rugs jellies and canned fruits fish pond and a gold mine sand pit with hidden coins. Other booths offer home made candies ice cream cake and frappe. A Mother Goose dramatization by older people and a Japanese tea room add appeal. Tonight a chicken pie supper is on the program. Last evening featured violin and vocal solos and an address by Mayor Cronin introduced by Alderman S King on Churches and Civic Righteousness. The evening ends with a quartet program by Miss Mary Cheeseman Mrs Laella Shipman Martin Rex McMullen and Prof J Stanley Brown.

Landing Day Observed By Joliet Knights In Historic Roll Call

Rev Van Pelt and Assistant City Attorney Burke spoke at Joliet Council No 382 Landing Day celebration with about 200 Knights present. The event honored Christopher Columbus with a ceremonial address, vaudeville, and a vote of thanks to local papers.
