Governors Hughes and Deneen In Joliet Arrival Surprise

Special train carrying Governors Hughes and Deneen arrived in Joliet ahead of schedule to a crowded but disappointed crowd. Hughes praised Taft as the next president and contrasted policies with Bryan, while Deneen apologized for the miscommunication and pledged three cheers for Hughes, Taft, and the party.

Beaten at Moore home in South Chicago Street raid

Levi Wallace, Moore's son in law, says he was beaten and robbed of 56 at John Moore's residence 542 South Chicago Street. Inmates William Steele James Moore Thomas Madden Peter Artis Mabel Wallace Mandi Moore Mattie Meads Etter Morley were arrested but Wallace produced no evidence and all were released. Moore is a city police officer and the house has faced repeated disturbances including a recent knife fight.

Special Committee to Complete Work on Sanitary District Case

A seven member panel from the Board of Supervisors and Board of Review will finish reviewing the Sanitary District tax matter this week. The district seeks tax relief, contending assessments in Lockport and Du Page townships are excessive. The committee has spent three weeks in executive session hearing evidence. The case involves 1907 taxes blocked by an injunction and is before the Circuit Court.

Joliet florists prepare for the National Flower Show in Chicago November 6 to 14 hosted by the Society of American Florists and the Chicago Horticultural Society. W F Kasting of Buffalo led planning. over 15000 dollars in prizes are planned for private garden entries with notable figures like Thomas W Lawson and George Westinghouse anticipated. Thompson Carnation Company and Chicago Carnation Company lead carnations and chrysanthemums entries with many varieties, while A C Rott will handle table decorations and corsage work.
