Special train carrying Governors Hughes and Deneen arrived in Joliet ahead of schedule to a crowded but disappointed crowd. Hughes praised Taft as the next president and contrasted policies with Bryan, while Deneen apologized for the miscommunication and pledged three cheers for Hughes, Taft, and the party.
Levi Wallace, Moore's son in law, says he was beaten and robbed of 56 at John Moore's residence 542 South Chicago Street. Inmates William Steele James Moore Thomas Madden Peter Artis Mabel Wallace Mandi Moore Mattie Meads Etter Morley were arrested but Wallace produced no evidence and all were released. Moore is a city police officer and the house has faced repeated disturbances including a recent knife fight.
A seven member panel from the Board of Supervisors and Board of Review will finish reviewing the Sanitary District tax matter this week. The district seeks tax relief, contending assessments in Lockport and Du Page townships are excessive. The committee has spent three weeks in executive session hearing evidence.
