Knights Templar Notice for October 12 Parade Escort

All Sir Knights are asked to assemble at the asylum Monday October 12 at 7 30 o clock sharp to act as escort. Barretts Seek New Home After Lease Refusal

Joliet National Bank directors report John C. Barrett will withdraw Barrett & Co from a lease for quarters in a new Clinton and Chicago streets building. Barrett & Co would occupy first floor basement and fourth fifth floors but the board cuts to one floor and cancels the lease. Temporary quarters at Van Buren and Des Plaines streets will be retained.

Union Clubites prepare to open the season with doors on October 30 at the Country Club quarters. The summer venue shift toward indoor events follows a calendar arranged by the entertainment commander.

The Union League club plans an autumn and winter slate starting October 30 with an opening party in Jefferson street rooms. Election day November 3 features open house and election returns. guests may bring two friends. A husking bee on the thirteenth precedes Friday card nights, Thanksgiving party, December cards, and a December 11 musical. The fifteenth? cotillion, New Year children’s party, junior events, and a January 22 ladies’ entertainment follow, with February 5 infant masquerade and a late February sociable. The program wraps with a stereopticon lecture and minstrel date leading to the April Easter party.

Chicago Swindler May Have Worked Here

Chicago police identify Frank P. Dengel a real estate agent as a swindler who allegedly extorted rents from more than 100 families after posing as owner. He was arrested at 119 LaSalle Street. Authorities say the scheme began six months ago with a possible partner, operating in Lockport Joliet Evanston and Waukegan.

Stone sentenced to 240 days for bad checks in Joliet

F. M. Stone, four indictments for attempting to secure money under false pretenses, was sentenced in county court to 60 days on each of four counts and a $1 fine per count. He will serve 240 days in jail after transfer from the circuit court. He tried to pass bad checks on Joliet firms, with several business houses affected.

Public Buildings Closed for Landing Day

The city marks Landing Day with closures of public buildings and schools. No classes in parochial or city schools and City Hall and library close while the high school remains open. Superintendent Brown announced this afternoon.

Boy Caught Under Car Saves Life Citing Arm Risk

Thirteen year old Victor Wallin son of Mrs. Fred Carlson of 1621 East Clinton Street was playing near Rock Island tracks when he crawled under a car just as it was backed up by an engine. His right arm was crushed at the elbow and he was rushed to St. Joseph's Hospital where doctors are attempting to save the limb.

Troopers Camp Near Dellwood Park During Practice Hike

A U.S. cavalry squadron of about 200 men with 300 animals camps near Dellwood Park just outside Joliet. The group, part of the 13th U.S. Cavalry in a practice hike from Fort Benjamin Harrison to Fort Sheridan, arrived after traveling 20 to 30 miles daily since October 1. Commanded by Major T. J. Fire destroys Detroit drug store owned by Seltzer

Reports from Detroit indicate Leonard A. Seltzer's pharmacy on the first floor and basement of a large building was destroyed by a fire blamed on crossed electric wires. The stock loss is about 800 dollars, while the prescription file of roughly 100,000 entries survived.
