Storm Sweeps LET And Community Causing Major Damage

A severe two-part storm hit Let and surrounding areas from 6 45 pm to 7 30 am then at 3 am with wind hail rain and lightning. Uprooted trees blocked streets and damaged windows roofs and billboards while wire owning companies reported widespread outages and repairs began immediately.

Motorman Hurt as Brake Beam Drops on Car

James Ward a motorman on a Rockdale car was seriously hurt while rounding the corner of Chicago and Clinton streets at 5 30 last night. The brake beam dropped and dragged the heavy machinery along the pavement. The brake lever struck him in the stomach and he lost consciousness. He was removed to St Josephs hospital with no bones broken.

Grave Decorated by Family for Sebastian Hock in Wilmington

Mr and Mrs Adolph Loeffler and children from Chicago toured to Wilmington to decorate the grave of Mrs Loefflers father Sebastian Hock. A landscape gardener accompanied them. Mrs Loeffler was formerly Miss Anna Hock who lived in Wilmington fifteen years ago. Mr Loeffler is secretary of the Wisconsin Lime and Cement Co.

Joliet Hosts Annual Trapshooting Tournament

Trapshooters from across the state converge on Joliet for a two day Will County Gun Club event at First street Lockport grounds. The annual meet runs under Interstate rules with 23 events daily and four prizes per day. About 100 professionals and amateurs compete, including entrants from the Chicago state meeting. All former members of the United States navy are requested to meet at police headquarters on Joliet street tomorrow afternoon at 1 o'clock to participate in the Memorial day services.

Lightning Destroys Barn on Koch Farm

A barn on Frits Koch’s farm five miles southeast of town was struck by lightning and burned at six in the morning. It held about ten tons of hay and was saved from total loss by a bucket brigade, though the north side fire grew beyond control. Loss estimated around $1,000 with insurance in two places. No animals were harmed as they had been put in the fields the night before.

City Employee Vanishes After Four Weeks Missing

Family of Cyhill Wise, a Street Department worker living at 204 Beach Street, reports he disappeared four weeks ago after leaving May 1 to draw his pay at City Hall. Neighbors say he may have departed solely, with no known cause, while his wife remains hopeful he will return. Local officials note Wise previously left for days but never so long, amid city rumors of possible foul play.

Lineman Falls From Tree During Storm Incident

Edward Strohm of Economy Light & Power Co. fell from a tree top in Soulpit during last night’s storm. He suffered fractures and serious injuries and was carried by police ambulance to a hospital. Strohm lives on North E Street.
