Mystery surrounds bar killing as cash register looted

Joliet police investigate a death found at 10:30 near a bar. The victim lay face down and was dead on discovery. The cash register had been rifled but a sum between 400 and 500 dollars was not taken.

The Will County Fair Association released a revised premium list for 1908 with major changes. New classes in horses, herd premium shifts for cattle, and added beef and dairy breed prizes plus sweepstakes. Small Boys Cause False Alarm on Marion Street Fire

A false alarm near Marion Street and Cagwin Avenue prompted a fire department call. Witnesses report several boys aged about ten aged tried to attract attention while the neighborhood observed, though no blaze was found. Authorities investigate. no injuries reported.

Butler Named Engineer for Fisher Construction Co.

Parry G. Butler of Joliet left Ancon Canal Zone to join Fisher Construction Co as engineer on the Joliet to Wilmington line. Butler previously directed Panama railroad yards rebuilding. He graduated in 1900 from the local high school and studied engineering at the University of Illinois.

Joliet officials learned Nicholas Martin once a Joliet postman became private secretary to Alderman Kenna known as Hinky Dink in Chicago. Martin resigned from federal service and vanished from local notice for years while having many relatives in Joliet. He spoke of love, while she retorted about running a kindergarten.
