Sanitary district plans belt line railroad between Joliet and Chicago

Chicago officials reveal a belt line railway to connect industrial sites along the drainage canal from Joliet to Chicago. Lewis Vickers arrested on cruelty to animals after leaving horse in sun ten hours. He carried $778 in old bills and a bank book showing thousands. Police suspect mental imbalance. he claims a horse will not drink more than twice daily and opposes nature.

Heat Prostration Toll Rises With Fatality At Local Plant

Eight heat prostrations have occurred with one death reported at a chemical plant north of the city. Toney Keto, a stoker at Superior Chemical Co., collapsed in the engine room late evening and was convulsing and violently affected. Doctors warned more victims could appear as hot weather lingered.

Joliet G A R Picnic Draws Veterans and Crowds

The Joliet G A R veterans held their annual Riverview Park picnic drawing 4000 attendees from Kane county posts and out of county groups. Department Commander Rosenbaum of Chicago and assistant adjutant general Partridge attended and reviewed a parade led by J S Wilcox of Elgin. A noon picnic followed with an afternoon program and speeches.
