Wreck at Aurora Joliet line kills many in city crash
A west bound streetcar and a northbound freight train collide near Baldwin's Hill three miles west of the city causing multiple deaths and many injuries. The crash tears the car apart, with steam hissing from the wreck and a large firefighting and medical response. Victims include several lodged in wreckage and a veteran motorman.

Whittington Victim of Railroad Crash Buried Here
Cyrus Whittington longtime Joliet & Southern Traction employee who ran the first car between here and Plainfield died in last night’s railroad accident. Survived by wife daughter of the Thayer family, mother Mrs H J Murphy, son Earl 19, brother A W Whittington, sister May Whittington, and several in-laws. Funeral set for tomorrow at 3 from the Thayer residence with private interment at Oakwood. Friends of Whittington and Thayer families invited. He was born in 1861 near Channahon.
